About This Spot

Walking into La Prima Tazza feels like stepping into a familiar corner of Lawrence where time slows just enough to savor small, thoughtful moments. The atmosphere leans into quiet comfort—a mix of warm wood tones, cozy nooks, and the gentle hum of conversation mingling with the steady hiss of the espresso machine. It’s the kind of place where people settle in with a book or a laptop and stay a little longer than planned, drawn by the inviting calm and the subtle buzz of community life.

Behind the counter, the staff move with easy familiarity, their genuine warmth weaving through the air. Here, it’s not about fancy presentations but about perfecting those classic favorites you come back for: a rich cappuccino, an indulgently smooth latte, or a steaming cup of hot chocolate that feels like a small reprieve from the day. The menu embraces approachable flavor, with a surprising twist here and there, like a hint of playful syrup options that quietly encourage experimentation without fuss.

La Prima Tazza quietly holds a place as a study haven and a casual meeting spot, where affordability meets quality without compromise. Regulars know the pleasure of bringing their own mugs for a small nod to sustainability, while newcomers often find themselves lingering, drawn in by both the coffee and the surprisingly joyful presence of a certain four-legged friend who ambles through the space with undeniable charm.

Whether you’re seeking refuge from a chilly Kansas morning or a calm corner to get some work done, this café offers a steady rhythm and a sincere sense of belonging. The kind of place where little moments matter: the first sip of well-crafted coffee, the unexpected chat with a barista who knows your usual, or the quiet contentment of simply being in a space that feels quietly alive.

Best place to get coffee in Lawrence- staff are the absolute best. Can bring your own mug for a discount.

by far my favorite coffee shop in lawrence! so affordable compared to other places!! they’re kind of a “no frills” shop, but you can get all of your favorite classic drinks with a large syrup selection :) a great place to study and hang out

Great coffee, affordable prices, and even better service! I absolutely love their matcha — pro tip: always add strawberry syrup to your green matcha; it’s a total game-changer. It’s the perfect spot to study or work, and they even have the cutest dog named Noodle. Honestly, I pretend I’m there for the coffee, but I’m really just there for Noodle… though I’m pretty sure he doesn’t like me back. It’s fine, I’m just crying inside.

We often go to La Prima Tazza when we are in Lawrence. They serve Oddly Correct coffee, and they have an extensive menu. The staff really know their stuff, and are incredibly friendly.

There must be an onery ghost that lives here. Some sort of trickery was making everyone drop things while we were visiting. Could have just been the cold weather. Which made the coffee even more delightful. I had never been here but saw an article in the Lawrence times and had to try after seeing their recommendation.

La Prima Tazza is an awesome coffee shop! I really enjoy the tasty flavors of coffee they have. Always presented very artfully... Speaking of art, they feature local artists as well! The pottery I found there was from a local fella. Really beautiful stuff. The baristas are always kind, and friendly. The place itself is rather small, with limited seating, but the giant windows really let in some happy natural light, and allow for some quality people watching of Mass Street. They do sell various types of bulk coffee, and often have a snack or two of baked good by the register.

While on vacation I ha e been here twice already. Yeah, it's that good. They have sugar free flavors and the coffee itself is super yummy and not bitter at all. I got a sugar free hazelnut iced latte which was AMAZING with flavor! I got the sugar free vanilla latte iced today. It was so good, but I gotta say the hazelnut was off the charts good. The staff was friendly and attentive and make great coffee with a smile.

Coffee was very good. We enjoyed being downtown in a hometown space with friends. It got kind of loud but I think that was just us...
